Fingal Counselling Service (FCS) is a community-based service based in Swords providing counselling to the people of the greater Fingal area for over 30 years.
FCS is looking to recruit a person to work as Chairperson for its voluntary Management Committee for a minimum of 2 years. The Chairperson plays a valuable and vital role in the day-to-day operation and growth of the service.
The Role:
The Chairperson will hold a leadership role in supporting and guiding the Management Committee overseeing the service, and ensuring that FCS continues to meet its mission and values. As Chairperson, you will:
- Provide leadership and direction to the Management Committee to achieve goals of the organisation.
- Ensure effective practice and support with regulatory obligations.
- Facilitate regular committee meetings.
- Work closely with Committee members to monitor the organisation’s performance, policies, and finances.
- Act as the key point of contact for internal and external stakeholders.
- Advocate the FCS mission and promote the value of mental health support in the wider community.
- Provide support, encouragement, and oversight to ensure the smooth functioning of the service.
Essential Skills/ Criteria:
We are seeking a motivated and compassionate individual with:
- Leadership experience, ideally in a governance, board or committee setting.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate.
- Organisational and strategic thinking skills, with the ability to guide the development and future growth of FCS.
- Excellent IT skills with a knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- A strong commitment to the values of community service, confidentiality, and inclusion.
Experience in the community, voluntary, or health/mental health sectors would be an advantage but not essential.
Additional Information:
Approx. 12 hours per month, including monthly Committee meetings and preparation time. Minimum commitment of two years to ensure continuity. The candidate is subject to Garda Vetting and receipt of satisfactory references.
