POSITION: VOLUNTARY BOARD MEMBER

Position

Sonas Domestic Abuse Charity are advertising for a Board member with a background in domestic, sexual and gender-based violence service delivery, or related frontline engagement, to join the Board of Directors in a voluntary capacity. The successful candidate will act as a Board member contributing across all aspects of the operation of the charity.

About Sonas

Sonas is the largest provider of frontline services to women and children experiencing domestic and gender based abuse in the greater Dublin region. We support women and children experiencing domestic and gender based abuse by providing effective, quality services, including refuge, advice, support, court accompaniment, outreach and accommodation-based services. We advocate on women and children’s behalf with other services and on issues that impact on the safety, welfare and wellbeing of women and children experiencing domestic and gender based abuse.

The Role

Sonas is seeking a Board member with a background in domestic, sexual and gender-based violence support service delivery or related frontline services who also has an interest in the social care, voluntary or charity sector.

Responsibilities will include the following:

• Providing input to the strategic direction of the organisation and contributing with insight, oversight, and experience in the social, community or charity sector

Essential Skills/Qualities required for the role:

• An understanding of and commitment to Sonas’ mission and values
• Commitment to highest levels of corporate governance
• Previous experience on a board would be an advantage – but not essential
• For this particular role, knowledge and experience of DSGBV support services, or related frontline engagement.

Board Meetings

Board meetings are held 6 times a year using a combination of in-person and Zoom style meetings. The successful candidate may also be asked to join a sub-committee.
