EU Just Transition Fund: Local Economic and Community Plans

The application process for EU JTF: Local Economic and Community Plans Scheme is now open.

Introduction

The European Union Just Transition Fund (EU JTF) ‘Supporting the implementation of Local and Regional Economic Strategies (or Local Economic and Community Plans)’ Scheme is open for applications. The scheme is co-funded by the Government of Ireland and the European Union through the EU Just Transition Fund. Successful projects will be delivered from December 2024 to 31 March 2026.

The ‘designated areas’, for the purposes of this grant funding are Laois, Offaly and Longford. There are also two counties which are partially included, namely parts of Galway – Ballinasloe and Kildare – Athy, Clane-Maynooth. All projects must be delivered in or provide benefit to the eligible territory.

The Department of the Environment, Climate and Communications (DECC) is the funding body for the scheme, and the Eastern and Midland Regional Assembly (EMRA) is the Managing Authority. Pobal is responsible for administering the funding in collaboration with DECC and EMRA.

How can eligible organisations apply?

Eligible organisations (see table below) can apply for EU JTF Local Economic Community Plans (LECP) Projects where projects should align with the LECP of the territory and are at an advanced stage and ready to be implemented.

Projects must be in, or benefit, the EUJTF territory in Counties Galway – Ballinasloe; Kildare – Athy or Clane-Maynooth; Laois, Longford or Offaly.
