Foróige: Youth Mentoring Volunteers - Mayo
Foróige Youth Mentoring - Mayo
About us...
Big Brother Big Sister is an internationally recognised youth mentoring programme that forms supportive friendships for young people inspiring them to brighter futures.
A “Match” refers to the Mentor & Mentee once they have met and agree to keep meeting. Both are brought together based on shared interests, hobbies and personalities, they make decisions together as to what activities they would like to do.
All applicants are carefully screened, receive training and subject to approval with the programme and are provided with support throughout their match with the young person.
The young people live locally, from a variety of backgrounds, and would benefit from developing a friendship with a caring adult outside of their family. Through this friendship adults can inspire young people to their own positive development.
Who are we looking for?
We are looking for volunteers aged 18 and over across the Mayo area who are interested in making a difference in a young person’s life.
We would like potential volunteers to have good communication skills, enthusiasm, motivation, patience, empathy, reliability and most importantly an interest and belief in mentoring young people and the impact it can have.
Successful adult volunteers are asked to share one to two hours a week with the young person they are matched with. The initial commitment requested is for one year.
