Úna Gan A Gúna: Irish Women’s Oral History Collective is looking for volunteers and interview participants for new project!

Úna Gan A Gúna is an oral history collective engaged in gathering and sharing Irish women's stories in order to capture a fuller history of Ireland. Our mission is to ensure that the memories of Irish women from the 1930s onwards are heard, recorded and kept as a part of both Irish history and that of the Irish diaspora.

We are launching ‘Ó Ghlúin Go Glúin’! This is a new one-year project to train a younger generation of Irish women in oral history interviewing and give them access to the wisdom and experience of their elders. We are grateful to the Department of Foreign Affairs Emigrant Support Programme for their grant funding.

To bring Irish women together ‘Ó Ghlúin Go Glúin’ (knee to knee, generation to generation) we need our community to share their stories with us, we're looking for women over 50 with connections to Ireland who are interested in being interviewed! Sharing and archiving your story with us will make sure that the experiences of Irish women from the twentieth century are not forgotten and will ensure that a younger generation of Irish women can benefit from the stories and solidarity of their elders.

To record the stories of Irish women from across Ireland and the diaspora in the U.K., we are recruiting five volunteer oral history leads, for the Republic, the North, Scotland, England, and Wales, to support this project. This is a great opportunity to develop transferable skills in oral history interviewing, volunteer coordination, research and communication. We are also recruiting 18–30-year-old volunteers to develop their oral history skills and conduct intergenerational interviews with Irish women. We offer a supportive and engaging volunteering experience including oral history training, regular catch ups, and the opportunity to be part of a like-minded community of Irish women.

If you’re interested in being interviewed, or in either of the volunteer roles, please get in touch at faisneis@unaganaguna.org or you can find more info at unaganaguna.org
