Cork Steiner Kindergarten
Cork Steiner Kindergarten is a not for profit organization providing pre-school education for children aged 3 to 6. We aim to support families from different social backgrounds with a sliding scale fee structure and a free pre-school year for children under the ECCE scheme. We have an actively socially inclusive community development approach. We have recently relocated and are slowly integrating into our new community. The Glen in Cork city is at the centre of a rejuvenation project after many years of deprivation and lack of resources within the community. We are part of this as we are situated in a new purpose built childcare facility and we provide childcare to the local community within this new housing development. In the spring and summer terms we take our children on a walk through the Glen park.
Cork Steiner Kindergarten is a member of the Irish Steiner Waldorf Association, the national representative for the Steiner Early Childhood Education in Ireland. ISKA provides support and training to Steiner Childcare Professionals and works in collaboration with the County Childcare Committee and local childcare networks to work towards a sustainable and professional childcare sector in Ireland.
We aim for the kindergarten to be a centre which caters for the childcare needs of the local community. Our aim for the children is to develop physically, emotionally and intellectually, develop an interest in learning, a love and respect for nature and all people in a safe and caring learning environment. This is achieved through creative play inside and outdoors and watching the adults around them being engaged in meaningful activity such as baking, gardening, crafts, preparing meals and cleaning.
