Habitat for Humanity - Ireland
Habitat for Humanity is an internationally acclaimed non-denominational Christian self-build housing charity that has built over 125,000 homes in 87 countries since its inception in 1976.
HFH builds houses with people, not just for people. It works together with homeowners and volunteers to construct the houses using donations of money, materials and professional expertise. This ensures that house costs are kept to a minimum. Once the houses are built, they are sold to families in need, at no profit through an interest free mortgage. Participating families (who meet the criteria for acceptance in the Habitat for Humanity programmes) complete 500 hours of work, known as 'sweat equity'.
