It delivers Digital Literacy and teacher training to disadvantaged communities in Ireland, Africa and the Caribbean by reusing disposed computers. Digital Literacy is the ability to locate, organise, understand, evaluate, and create information using digital technology.
Each Camara computer is loaded with free educational software which includes games, Wikipedia and Open Office. Since 2005 Camara has shipped 40,000 computers, trained 11,000 teachers in 2,000 schools resulting in 500,000 people becoming digitally literate.
