Doras Buí
Doras Buí is a community development resource centre that provides high quality supports and services to lone parents living in the greater Coolock area of North East Dublin. We aim to support lone parents to extend their life choices, overcome discrimination and become socially and economically independent.
Doras Buí was established 30 years ago supporting lone parents and their families. We work with male and female lone parents from a variety of backgrounds offering them information, support, guidance and solidarity, often at times of crisis. We incorporate a Resource Centre for parents and an Early Years crèche for children creating a unique community space attended by over 300 adults and 75 children on a monthly basis. In this inclusive welcoming environment, diversity is recognised, valued and affirmed. Our integrated service enables lone parents to break down social barriers and assists families in over coming isolation. Doras Buí offers parents and their children valuable opportunities to develop an appreciation for themselves as individuals and as members of the wider community.
Doras Buí offers high quality, affordable and accessible services to lone parents – whether solo parents, separated, divorced or widowed. In 2016, almost one quarter of Irish children live in lone parent households. There are nearly 60,000 lone parent households in Dublin alone, each with their own unique story. We understand the challenges and rewards of parenting alone, and look forward to another thirty years advocating for social justice for lone parents and their families.
