The Marie Keating Foundation
Following their mother Marie’s death from breast cancer in 1998, the Keating family promised to provide the people of Ireland with vital information, advice and support on the signs and symptoms of cancer and help to prevent cancer or detect it at its earliest stages. The Marie Keating Foundation was established in her memory and with this central ambition in mind.
The Marie Keating Foundation has evolved to become one of Ireland’s leading voices in cancer in Ireland and now provides a range of cancer awareness, support and survivorship services to thousands of people across the country every year.
To help prevent cancer and provide education for the early detection of cancer, the Marie Keating Foundation’s team of specialised nurses provide bespoke seminars on cancer prevention as well as dedicated sessions on some of Ireland’s most common cancers like breast, bowel, lung and skin to community groups, marginalised communities, schools and business across Ireland. As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Foundation has transitioned on-line and is now providing this vital service through live-streamed sessions or as pre-recorded webinars, covering the same topics.
Committed to being there for people and their families at every step of their cancer journey, the Foundation provides free cancer support services such as the Positive Living support group for women with metastatic breast cancer, a six-week Survive and Thrive programme for cancer survivors out the other side of treatment and the Comfort Fund grant scheme, awarding once-off financial support to cancer patients struggling financially as a result of their cancer diagnosis. These services are provided to hundreds of cancer patients and survivors in Ireland each year.
The Marie Keating Foundation also supports the BRCA community and provides the country’s only support, advice and Peer to Peer counselling network for those that test positive for a BRCA1 / BRCA 2 gene mutation.
