Breaking Through
Breaking Through CLG, a national organisation was established in 2000. We are a registered charity CHY No : 13601. We are also registered with the Charity Regulatory Authority Reg No: 20042844.
Breaking Through CLG under The Scheme To Support National Organisations is funded by the Government of Ireland through the Department of Rural and Community Development.
We are governed by a voluntary Board of Directors with four staff members.
The main focus of Breaking Through’s work is to develop and coordinate the Irish Aftercare Network. This we do by supporting people working with young people leaving the care system. Aftercare is a term used to describe the planning and support put in place to meet the needs of a young person who is leaving statutory care at age 18 years. Currently there are approximately 6000 young people in care in Ireland who in the next number of years will be care leavers.
Breaking Through also co-ordinates and manages Suicide Intervention Skills Training such as START (Suicide Prevention Skills Online), safeTALK (Suicide Alertness for Everyone), Understanding Self Harm and ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training) on behalf of the HSE for those who live or work in the CHO 02 Area, Galway, Mayo & Roscommon, CHO 07 Area, Dublin South, Kildare and West Wicklow, CHO 06 Area of Dublin South East, Dublin South and East Wicklow. www.nosp.ie/training
