Title: Mental Health Promotion Officer

Duration: Fixed Term contract to 31st July 2025

Location: Hybrid work

Salary: €36,000 - €42,000, 35 hours per week
This role is assigned to the Job Family of: Coordinator. The Irish Red Cross has 6 Job Families: Secretary General; Senior Manager; Programme/Project Manager; Coordinator; Development, & Admin; Administration.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

The Irish Red Cross Society (IRC) is part of the world’s largest independent humanitarian network, the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. The Irish Red Cross is participating in a comprehensive mental health project managed by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), which involves 28 National Societies across Europe to support Ukrainians. As part of this initiative, the Irish Red Cross is expanding its NET clinical support service by adding five new therapists. Additionally, they are broadening their Psychological First Aid (PFA) trainings and introducing two new IFRC training programs: Self Help Plus and Problem Management Plus.

SUMMARY OF ROLE

The Mental Health Promotion Officer is responsible for enhancing the mental well-being of individuals and communities by identifying training participants, disseminating information about available mental health services delivered by the Irish Red Cross and providing mental health promotion materials. This role requires a proactive approach to community engagement and a strong commitment to improving mental health outcomes.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

Identify Training Participants:

  • Develop national network of organisations to collaborate with on the delivery of mental health information and training.
  • In collaboration with Mental Health Projects manager, develop criteria and processes for selecting participants to ensure inclusivity and diversity.
  • Coordinate with community groups, charity organisations and local authority representatives to identify individuals who would benefit from the Irish Red Cross mental health-related training programs.

Disseminate Information:

  • Create and distribute informational materials about available mental health services, ensuring clarity and accessibility.
  • Utilise various communication channels, including social media, website registration, community meetings, and printed materials, to reach a broad audience.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of information dissemination strategies and adjust as needed to improve outreach.

Community Engagement:

  • Develop and implement community engagement strategies tailored to the specific needs and cultural contexts of local Ukrainian populations.
  • Organise and facilitate workshops, seminars, and events to promote mental health awareness and education.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with community stakeholders, including local health providers, non-profit organisations, and government agencies.

ROLE REQUIREMENTS

Essential Criteria

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, or a related field.
  • Strong project-related communication skills, including the ability to convey complex information clearly and effectively to diverse audiences.
  • Strong team player with the capacity to work across teams
  • Proficiency in using various communication platforms, such as social media, Telegram, newsletters, and public speaking, to reach and engage with the community.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences.
  • Strong record-keeping and reporting skills

Desirable Criteria

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field.
  • Experience in graphic design
  • Experience in developing and implementing communication strategies that promote mental health awareness and service utilisation.
  • Experience in organising and facilitating community events, workshops, and seminars.
  • Demonstrated secondary skills in community engagement, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with community stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of different languages and cultural practices.

This is a remote employment role with frequent travel within Ireland related to project activities and regular travel to the Irish Red Cross Head Office in Dublin for project coordination meetings.

The appointment is subject to Garda Vetting clearance.
