A new 6-week online course aims to empower the public and patients with knowledge to actively participate in health and social care research ethics processes, such as participating on Research Ethics Committees.

Research Ethics Course for the Public and Patients

IPPOSI, together with HSE Research and Development, the National Office for Research Ethics Committees, a number of patient partners and a wider partnership collaborative, is launching a new online course on Research Ethics for the public and patients. This initiative encourages public and patient involvement (PPI) in research, and is a significant step toward to creating a more inclusive and people-centred research environment in Ireland.

Topics: 

The course aims to enhance the public’s understanding of ethical considerations in health research, including informed consent, data protection and privacy and the ethical review process. Additional lessons on topics such as Artificial Intelligence, Research with Children and Biobanking will also be a feature of this course.

Dates: October 21st – November 29th 2024

Cost: free, but places are limited so candidates must apply to be selected.

Venue: fully online. 10-17 E-Lessons (20-30min each) on an online platform, and 4 interactive workshops on Zoom (at 10am on Oct 21, Nov 4, Nov 13, Nov 27).
