Job Title: Community Arts Workers

Two short-term, part-time positions to December 18 2024

The GAFF wishes to recruit two part-time Community Arts Workers to deliver a programme of workshops and creative events in community settings and from its new company base on Edward St. Building on a significant body of work undertaken with communities in St. Mary’s, Southill, Moyross and across a wide range of communities in Limerick, the new positions a work closely with a voluntary and professional team to identify community participants and design programmes of work in a number of disciplines which may include drama, visual art/craft, music, film, dance as well as food preparation and production.

The successful candidates will spend 90% of their working time in direct contact with participants including young people and families identified as being at risk of exclusion from regular social and cultural activities. Working hours will vary and will include some evening and weekend sessions. The contract of employment is for 13 weeks from October 1st.

Candidate Profile

A knowledge of some of Limerick’s community and cultural organisations and work currently being undertaken in community based arts is essential to this role. Proficiency in at least one of the activities listed above is essential with experience in more than one being desirable.

The GAFF welcomes applications from candidates with a demonstrated interest and some experience of working in communities in creative contexts. Experience of working with young people and with families living in areas of socio-economic disadvantage is also desirable. A commitment to social justice and training in community based arts, youth work, social care or another related discipline is essential. The successful applicants will be self-starters with a proven record of delivery of arts at community level with knowledge and experience of working with/reporting to a voluntary board of directors.

Hourly rate of €30, which takes cognisance of preparation time, applies.
