Title: Personal Assistant / Carer

Location: Quiet, rural location in south Co Wicklow

Would you like to join a small dedicated team of people to enable a mature gentleman, living with a Spinal Cord Injury, to achieve maximum independence in his daily living, by providing assistance in all areas of personal and domestic needs and by acting as a support in the social and day-to-day activities.

We are a private household that currently has a part time qualified Personal Assistant /Carer vacancy. This gentleman is paralysed from the neck down and is confined to a wheelchair and requires the assistance of two people for all transfers etc.

We self-direct our own care through a HSE homecare package. Personal care and social care is provided by a small team of people on a rostered basis, we need kind, caring, empathetic and trustworthy people to assist this gentleman live as normal a life as possible in his own family home which is located in the countryside.

Ideal for a person living in the south County Wicklow area.

Part-time Position:

  • Morning, Afternoon and Evening Shifts
  • Flexible hours
  • 15 hours a week approx
  • 2 - 3 days a week, one weekend in three.

Qualification:

  • FETAC Level 5 in Health and Social Care
  • Full Driving Licence

Overall Purpose of the Job:

Main Duties / Responsibilities:

  • Personal Hygiene includes assisting with taking a shower/bath, washing/shaving, brushing hair, catheter care, stoma care, assisted cough, physiotherapy sessions, etc.
  • Provide effective personal care and support in a way that maintains the privacy, dignity and safety of the person at all times.
  • Housework that the Leader requires, including making/changing bed, cleaning the bathroom, washing / ironing clothes, lighting solid fuel stove, cleaning the kitchen, etc.
  • Provide assistance in using computers and conducting research on the Internet.
  • Support the Leader in a safe manner when using aids where appropriate e.g. hoists.
  • Preparation and cooking of meals and washing up.
  • Drive and accompany the Leader on social outings, events, shopping etc.
  • Accept and carry out all instructions diligently.
  • Behave in a reliable and trustworthy manner at all times.
  • Have clean personal habits.
  • Willing to attend all training sessions.
  • Communicate effectively with the Leader and their relatives.
