Waking Night Support Workers are responsible for the safety and security of the service by ensuring that the home is safe, and the young people are supported. The Waking Night Support Workers will assess risk, manage incidents, and provide person-centred support to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all young people throughout the night. Waking Night Support Workers must remain awake for the duration of the shift.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for achieving the following:

  • Night-time security and monitoring of the building and its environment.
  • Supervision of young people
  • To provide responsive, sensitive, and proportionate support to the young person in the event of incident or crisis.
  • To alert a member of the social care team to any emergency or behaviour management concerns
  • Accessing the On-call manager during out of hour’s times when necessary
  • To act flexibly, within reasonable grounds, to ensure necessary cover.
  • To work alongside out-of-hours support and/or emergency services.
  • To ensure that all the household tasks and paperwork allocated through the night shift are maintained up to date and completed to the highest standard.
  • In conjunction with the young people and the team, ensure that the house is kept to a good standard of tidiness, cleanliness and hygiene including communal areas and bathrooms.
  • Supporting the young people with laundry and cleaning tasks where appropriate.
  • Ensuring the young person is supported
  • Ensure the human rights of the young person supported is upheld to the highest standards.
  • Ensure that young people experience a sense of safety in a homely environment
  • Ensure that work is prioritised so that key commitments are kept.
  • Ensure that you work as a positive contributing member to your staff team and the organisation.

Qualification and Experience

  • • Candidates must have a minimum of QQI Level 6 in Social Care or a similar field of study.
  • At least one year’s experience in a community or residential setting
  • Experience in supporting vulnerable people with a trauma-informed approach
  • Candidates must also have a deep commitment to children’s rights and child protection and enjoy working in a dynamic, challenging environment
  • Knowledge and experience of implementing National Standards for Childrens Residential Centres
